A Time of Harvest

A Time of Harvest

Fall is a time of harvest. If you’re a gardener, maybe you’ve been doing some harvesting of your own! Whether or not you’re bringing in a physical harvest, fall is a great time to look at everything you’ve harvested this year in terms of goals, ideas, and dreams you’ve had. It’s the perfect time of year to take an inventory of these things and see what has been giving you fruit and what hasn’t. This is a crucial part of determining which systems have been working for you and which haven’t been, and knowing that can help you make decisions for next year.

Setting Big Goals

Personally, I like to set big goals at the beginning of each year. That way, I have flexibility throughout the following months to work toward each goal, cluster some of them together, or set some aside until a better time. Then, during this point in the year, I look at the fruits of my harvest and use that to help me get set up for next year’s goals.

Growing Your “Gardening” Skills

We can all learn something from gardeners and the care they put into their gardens, especially around harvest time. With that in mind, I challenge you to put some of your own “gardening” skills to use this month by asking yourself the following questions:

  1. What systems have been working well for me?
  2. What fruit am I harvesting in terms of my goals and dreams?
  3. What systems have NOT been working well for me?
  4. Which areas are lacking a bountiful harvest this year?
  5. Which areas do I want to focus on in the upcoming year?

Take some time to truly reflect on the answers to those questions. As you come up with answers to them, be sure to record them somewhere so you can come back to them as needed.

Let Your Routines Work For You

When it comes to harvesting, it’s important to have routines in place to reveal what’s working and what isn’t. That’s how we grow, which is why I recommend using this time each year to pause, think about what you’ve been harvesting, and set your course for the upcoming year.
